River Street Block Party to promote “built environment”

Time:  10:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m.

Location: College Walk and River Street (Sun Yat-Sen Mall) at Nuuanu Stream between North Kukui and North Beretania Streets.  Area just Ewa of the Chinese Cultural Plaza.

Sketch pads will be given at 11:30 a.m. and we're also encouraging everyone to bring their own sketch pads and cameras. The idea is to get people to tell us what we should see in and to develop the river area. There will be storytellers and the landscape architects will be starting to gather information and ideas about what can be done to resolve community and public health concerns to revitalize that neighborhood.  “Woks of fire” begins at 7 p.m. (dusk). Hawaiian oli followed by torch lightings.  The woks will be suspended over the river to celebrate the area.  Bubbles of fire will float up over the river as the woks are ignited.
