What:  The Hawai‘i Department of Health, Office of Health Equity, and the Hawai‘i Public Health Association are co-hosting the first Health Equity Summit

Where:  Hawai‘i Convention Center

When:  September 11-12, 2009, 9:00 am - 4:30 pm

How much: 
Non-HPHA members:  $30.00
HPHA members:  $25.00
HPHA student members:  $20.00

One day registration:  $20.00*
One day registration-STUDENTS:  $15.00 (Proof of registration required)*
*For those registering for one day only, you may specify which day you want to attend during the registration process.
(In order to keep registration costs down, meals are not included.  Coffee service will be available for morning sessions.)
Who Should Attend:  Individuals who are interested in learning about and taking action to reduce health disparities and inequties in Hawai‘i.
  • Public health professional
  • Advocates for improving the state's public education system
  • Individuals or groups interested in developing environmentally sustainable food production
  • Individuals or groups interested in cultural equity
Participants will learn about theories explaining health inequities, examine current data on inequities in Hawai‘i and the Pacific, and provide input on strategies to move toward health equity for all people living in Hawai‘i.  The Summit will also provide training for community organizing and advocacy to reach health equity.  The results of the Summit will be incorporated in a State Health Equity Plan being developed by the Department of Health's Office of Health Equity.

A pre-conference tour of the Ho‘oulu ‘Aina Nature Park in upper Kalihi Valley will also be offered on September 10th.
